Sure, I have a lot of feelings/comments/criticisms about the Kanye movie, but all I really care to say is Hot damn! It's beautiful!

BOXhead: post-grad edition
It was about a year ago when this whole journey began. Though IP has wrapped, I'm still drawn to BOXhead and his charming ways.

A big, warm welcome to...
Robert Longo. FFFFound his stuff a few minutes ago and I'm hooked. Precise charcoal drawings that are large and full of action. Men In The Cities? Genius.

my kind of shop drop
give + take
I only have twelve drawings from my senior thesis, this is the worst. That's twelve original, hand-drawn, can't-be-replicated drawings that I have trouble parting with. I art-swapped my first one with a good friend, Charles, and came up with an idea: You take my Boxhead, I take your picture.

why did i think to leave?
Sporadic posting and the threat of a long-term hiatus from this blog over the last month was all due to me getting a tumblr. A tumblr where writing doesn't take place, only drawings. No matter how much I call myself an illustrator, I do like writing (even if I'm the only one reading it...).
Here's to never leaving you again, blogspot.

On a Neck, On a Spit
Just thought of a comic idea about a part of this song. Click the first link to hear it!
(and yes, my blog is becoming a series of virtual post-its)

this was bound to happen
HIPSTER DICKS: inspiration
Cool guys with cool mustaches doing cool stuff in slow motion. Courtesy of the amazing Nick Campbell.
Luke Byrne's photography is key. Beautiful imagery, saturated color, subjects that couldn't give a damn if they tried.
Sweaters and fixed gears. Centered framing and animal obsession, too.
Shitfaced nights.
more to come...
HIPSTER DICKS
A summer project with some kids I know in Ann Arbor. This is me taking full advantage of having a free video camera and mics for the time being.
It's COPS meets Urban Outfitters...

Moni Lewandowski
Lively, yet simplified. Her figures have such expressions of pain or dullness (which I love).

oh sam jones
He photographs famous people. He's probably famous now, too. Becoming what you photograph. How strange.
It's shake & bake, and I helped!
In an attempt to eat something that didn't come from a box, bag, or restaurant, I cooked (baked?) some bruschetta. Alright, alright. It was for a potluck, but I do mean to start cooking more. You know, going to the store, buying ingredients, learning about spices, the whole shabang.
Jenna made mac & cheese (from scratch!) and learned what paprika was...

missing Canada and Marcel
Today, the 25th of April year 2010, marks the end of the largest collection ever to be seen of Mr. Marcel Dzama's work at Musée d'art contemporain de Montréal. It hurts me to have not made it out to see the exhibition.
On the bright side, he is only 36 years old. There have got to be more collections like this in the future, right?

first day of freedom
Today is the first day of my never-ending summer. I celebrated by sleeping in and watching Lost. This life of leisure will quickly end as I realize all the projects I'm taking on aside from having more than one part-time job. This is what I chose for myself. My life as an illustrator.
Here's my new workspace that needs sprucing up now that A&D is taking away my studio (thanks a lot, ya jerks!).

it's pronounced ash-lee
Here are a few photos of my I.P. project from made from scratch at Spare House.
Being as smart as I am, I forgot to scan my drawings before hanging them. Enjoy the nice 'orb' effect before I go professional on ya.

Matt Shlian, I had no idea.
I always knew Matt Shlian (young, bearded professor here at A&D) was a master of paper folding, paper cutting, and the like, but I had never seen his drawings...until now.
I'm in one of those don't-study-for-your-last-university-exam-ever-and-procrastinate-instead moods. I was perusing blogs that make me feel excited about creating art, found but does it float, and saw the name 'matt shlian.' CLICK -- drawings galore!
Here's to hope in the future of drawing at A&D...
