Rosemarie Fiore

Found her via pitch. design union. GIANT spirographs with paint that looks like wool. I want to be in the room with the painting...so bad!

It sure brings me back...

love at first...read?

My short attention span has kept me from actually seeing Edward Gorey's illustrations. My friend Paolo showed me some tonight and I think this new love affair with Gorey is about to get serious.

In this case, I'm gaga for the content rather than going straight for the image. A common theme held together by separate drawings and characters. This is how I see BOXhead as a zine. It's also how I'd like to conduct my work in Phoebe Gloeckner's 'Narrative Art' (comic/graphic novel) class. We'll have to see how that goes...

semi-finished

It's been a while since we've seen BOXhead around these parts. 2 not-quite-complete drawings. Not sure if they'll make the final collection just yet.

New this week: large-scale drawings and nice paper.

drawing at work...

New box design for Zingerman's Zzzzzang bars. (un)Famously coined "the four-dollar candy bar" at the Michigan Theater.

working out my frustration

Finally figured out my final presentation. I'm going to take a picture of my studio as is, blow it up real big, paste it on a truck. Drive that around. Month-long moving installation. You're welcome, Ann Arbor.

a place called "I.P."

Welcome. Is there a rule somewhere saying I can get an A if I become an insomniac? If so, I just made the Dean's list. It's not that I could give two shits about grades (my work is another story), but I feel like it would redeem my loss of a sleep schedule...not that I ever got the routine "8 hours of sleep a night" anyway.

If IP could teach me one thing (knowing that I will gain much more than just one thing blah blah blah), it would be to finally get some courage to be stubborn and stand up for my work. Yeah, that's right, stubborn. It's because of my passive-quiet-niceness that I've spoken to my professors for a grand TOTAL of 40 minutes since September. Silent rage does nothing...only makes my GSIs think I'm even more insane. Go me.

microtampering

Evan, my studio-mate, laughs when he sees or says hi to me as if someone just told an awkwardly bland joke. I put this on his blank studio wall tonight. I'll be a Harley Man 'til the Day I Die. Temporary installation. That'll show 'em.

A series of posters have been on my mind since before I started IP. In fact, it was even another idea for the year-long project. They mock, what else, but advertising. This is a start...an overworked start.

Now that I think of it, I get greeted with a lot of laughs...

jitterbug

The work day may be starting off at 3 PM, but it is Saturday and there's no one else in the studios...I win. Beginning things with a giant cup o' joe from Espresso Royale. Not the greatest coffee around, but decent and the price makes it even better.

Come. Get a little nostalgic with me, will you? Coffee and cocoa plantation in Bali. Two thumbs up for a little agritourism!! Missing it like hell...
